So just because someone complained when someone tweeted (quite correctly) that there's no such thing as gender distinct from sex, the police thought it was their job to phone up & ask the tweeter-blogger to delete her posts? And we think that's okay? blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/02/why-ar…
There's no such thing as gender distinct from sex. No-one has to accept that there is such a thing as gender distinct from sex. And that's not even a "minority free speech" view. We've never had any great national debate where we concluded "gender" exists.
Can anyone provide me a link to any robust survey of public opinion on the question of whether gender exists distinct from sex?
And let's be quite clear: the question of whether gender exists distinct from sex is *not* a scientific or medical question. It is a philosophical and ethical one. Gender only exists if we decide we want to make it a normative category - & no-one is obliged to want to do that.
It should also be obvious that debates about gender occur solely because we do not (yet) have a technology allowing people to change sex.

One reason a 29/3 no deal is more likely than most commentators acknowledge (I'd now say 45% likely) is that when push comes to shove, most Conservative anti-no dealers are bluffing & most pro-no dealers are not.+
Anti-no dealers (ANDs) may resign from the Cabinet but fewer than 5 AND MPs will resign the whip & not even all of those would vote for a General Election. They'll never have the mass, the donors or the activists to form the core of a new party.+
By contrast, pro-no dealers (PNDs) are not bluffing. 20-50 would be willing to resign the whip & form a new party if Brexit is cancelled, & they would take most Conservative donors plus 40% of the activists. They cld credibly form a new party that might replace the Conservatives.

May's deal is unacceptable & should be rejected this week. It places NI under the EU's indefinite regulatory control. It gives the EU €39bn we do not owe with no trade deal in return. And it envisages a future relationship whereby the UK is dominated & has its laws set by the EU
The UK is not leaving the EU in order to do a deal with the EU. Having a deal with the EU is not worth surrendering our ability to set our own laws & make our own deals with non-EU countries. That was precisely what the EU referendum was about.
The UK's leaving the EU was not happenstance, some alignment of events never to be repeated. This is not "our one chance to leave". Leaving reflects the unsustainability, long-term, of the UK being dominated by the Single European State. The EU referendum set only Brexit's timing

In the (apparently likely) event Parliament & the Executive cancel Brexit, any True Leavers' movement wld need, if it is to tame & pacify wilder anti-system sentiments, a radical political reform agenda that went beyond simply leaving the EU. Here is a 7 pt plan for that scenario
1. Immediate, unnegotiated withdrawal from the EU & instant repudiation of any treaty or other agreement with the EU made or coming into force after True Brexit Day: 29 March 2019.
2. The top 3 ranks of the civil service to be automatically fired & their positions re-hired every time the Administration changes.

When male people say they are female, but also that there is no such thing as a distinct female sex class, then good girls like Fiona stay quiet and listen.
Fiona doesn't ask inconvenient questions or expect anything to make sense. No. Fiona accepts that her role is to accommodate; to absorb; to defer.

Two ground rules for understanding all this.

Rule 1: THERE IS NO DEFINITION OF GENDER IN UNITED STATES LAW. There is no one database everyone reads your gender from. Every part of the federal government, every state, every corporation has their own notion of "your gender".
This is normally very bad for trans people, because it means "fixing" one part of the federal government or one part of one state doesn't fix anything else. In this case it helps us, because *breaking* one thing doesn't *necessarily* break anything else.
