Breaking: Federal court orders partial unsealing of Michael Cohen search warrant materials, allowing for redactions of ongoing investigation into "Cohen's campaign finance crimes" and other areas. documentcloud.org/documents/5730…
The government has to file its proposed redacted version of the materials by Feb. 28. After court review, the materials will then be made public.
Legally, from a journalistic perspective, the decision from US District Judge William Pauley is a mixed bag.
Although Pauley is partially unsealing the materials under a common-law right to access, he also wrote at length about how he concludes the First Amendment does NOT provide access to search warrant materials (beginning on page 16).
