Bernie Sanders #LGBT record in total
1. 1995 “gays in military” remarks 2 years after Barney Frank/Clinton DADT compromise
2. 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) vote citing “states rights” not gay rights.
3. 1983 Pride Proclamation that activists pushed him to sign as Mayor
4. Supports Equality Act.
(Speech? Nationwide tour? Town Hall?)

5. 1972 Wrote letter to editor on Diamonstone’s Liberty Union- libertarian platform of NO LAWS
on mandatory schools, guns, fluoride, adultery, homosexuality and “etc”

We don’t know what the “etc” meant.
6. Signals Support for Civil Unions in Vermont AFTER @GovHowardDean signs the law in 2000.

7. 2009 Signals support for Marriage Equality in Vermont AFTER we pass it into law in Vermont.

I tried to retrieve and post the 2016 LGBT equality platform of Senator Sanders which IIRC listed 7 whole items but this is came back today.
LOL.
Without "and" and still nothing on the Equality Act
Nope, still nothing. Sen Sanders Equality Act
Not a peep. Lesbian and Bernie Sanders. Guess we are invisible?
Sen Sanders ought to at least mentioned "Lesbian" rights once on twitter don't you think? I heard he's a huge gay hero for signing a pride proclamation that one time.
Someone suggested I search "The Gays" that returns 6 tweets. Still nothing pushing the Equality Act which is what I would expect from an allied Senator.
After the work was done. After we banned conversion therapy in Vermont.
Sanders has No mention on Twitter of the Census Equality Act for #lgbt includion in the federal census. When gays are counted we can justify federal funding for our unique needs. Think gay youth suicide. Trans violence. Gay Elder care.
Sanders v Rich Tarrant Senate debate in ‘06 was a real blow to us volunteers at Freedom to Marry Vermont.
Sanders ignored our 6 years of work persuading Vermonters that civil unions were not enough and we needed to push for marriage.
“No, not now it’s too divisive” -Sanders
2006 was the first time Sanders said he was “comfortable with civil unions”, six years after they became law in Vermont.

In this ‘06 Senate debate he also refused to commit to work on tax equity for same sex couples if elected.

MA, neighbor state had legalized marriage in 04.
When Massachusetts legalized marriage equality, the tax issue became very important since many Vermonters live and/or work in the opposite state.

Sanders failed to understand this practical problem because he just never kept up on our issues or met with gay leaders.
Plenty of allies failed to keep up on our issues and waffled or dodged the hot button issue of gay civil unions and marriage before 2009.

No other ally spent 2016 claiming to be a big gay hero over a pride proclamation and a DOMA vote.

This is why old queers have this reaction
Sanders supporters can post that one pride proclamation all day long.

Queer activists know that was our mo.

We pushed paper at leaders, dragging them kicking and screaming into signing stuff.

Why did he sign only 1?

Why didn’t he speak or march?

He was mayor from ‘81-89
