idle thoughts on "fox news anchor hasn't washed his hands in a decade": living an unexamined life means you constantly say absolutely absurd shit and can't ever admit you said it once you realize how many doors it would close
justin mcelroy at the mbmbam show having a brain fart and saying "remember, every woman who's sat for a portrait is someone's mother" is a microcosm of decades of everyday life for millions of conservatives
i don't think fox news dude literally, genuinely believes germs aren't real, but i've absolutely had little comfortable lies i carried around for years and told myself to make it easier to blow off things i know are my responsibility
and there's two modes of that: there's the lie you tell yourself when you half-know it's a lie but you've already committed to evading the responsibility, and there's the one you're feverishly repeating because you really, really know you fucked up actually
and god conservative lives are just an ever-growing minefield of the latter. big ugly public lies about petty, uncontroversial things; a life spent as a deer in headlights, rushing from lie to lie to lie to lie and never quite getting stable again
anyone can look over at their shitty racist dad at any second and know that at that moment he is in the middle of a crisis, trying to figure his way out of a lie while looking calm. dad is constantly trying to figure out how to date betty AND veronica on the same night.
i think there's also a lot of lies of political necessity that conservatives have to tell, like, once you've taken money from a pharma company that's just blatantly trying to kill people, you have to deny things that literally all doctors and scientists agree on
and like, *you can't get away with it*, everyone knows you're full of shit, but we have this inability in politics to accuse anyone of acting in bad faith, which is weird. We have an obsession with the question "yes, but does he BELIEVE what he's saying" as if it matters
btw this guy isn't a politician but what difference does it make when all the politicians are just bullshit spewing tv talking heads anyway
they're basically all an amorphous metaball that acts as one entity
people want an edit button on twitter but i just want a personal quality rating based on how much i actually composed my thoughts before posting. i give this one about a 3/5, which means "fave, but don't retweet if your follower count is over 800"
