I'm playing Titanfall 2 for the first time; there's a sequence where houses (i assume) are being assembled, and I wonder if the designers realized they were mimicking Levittown
all the houses are being built by robots, plugging in chunks of a family home - furniture, then walls, a staircase, etc. And this is how levittown was made, and levittown is... to put it succintly, ground zero for Fallout's entire forgotten message
levittown may not have invented the american suburb but it was in competition at least. i mean, they did ban non-whites, so, it's up there with The Greats as far as post-war whiteness
but besides their blatantly racist lease terms, levitt also came up with the idea of manufacturing tract homes remotely and assembling them onsite, so they would in fact bring in entire chunks of House and simply nail them into place.
a truck rolled up, offloaded this, and rolled away, and it sat until a crew came to put it together, but when they did it took something like a day. flip everything upright and put the nails in, ikea flat-pack house
i don't think most people realize just how much of That Fifties Aesthetic! is owed to this. the whole idea of modular, mass-production-oriented construction being applied to something as personal as your immediate environs was born out of this place
