We need a forensic audit of #SNCLavalin's activities in BC. SNC has its tentacles deep into many BC crown corps, esp BC Hydro. Value of its Hydro contracts in last 15 yrs? What role did it play in the political decision to proceed w #SiteC? SNC Chair then was Gwyn Morgan! #bcpoli
Recall that Gwyn Morgan, the far-right former head of LNG gas giant Encana before becoming SNC Lavalin board chair, was tight w Gordon Campbell & Harper. Morgan became Christy Clark's chief advisor when Campbell stepped down in 2011 & Christy took over as premier. #bcpoli #sitec
There has never been a smoking gun, but many respected #bcpoli and #SiteC watchers have long questioned if there was lobbying from #SNCLavalin to resuscitate the oft-rejected Site C dam. #SNCLavalin was named as "prime consultant" to Site C in 2010. Timing is interesting...3/x
The period #SiteC was being planned was a high point in #SNCLavalin's bribery &c activities. It was already heading for legal & financial trouble. The World Bank disbarred it from contracts in 2013, citing numerous offences going back years. Gwyn Morgan was chair 2007-13. #bcpoli
[I'm going to jump around a bit here because the #SNCLavalin #bcpoli #bchydro #SiteC etc tale is a web of connections, not a single linear story, and it's hard to do on Twitter. PS I wouldn't have to do this at all if mainstream media had covered this in any responsible way.]
..Thanks Chris, I was just coming to that. What else was SNC doing in BC around the time it began doing reports & preliminary designs for #SiteC? The Skytrain work (Evergreen Line for 2010 Olympics etc) that was a gift from Gordon Campbell to #SNCLavalin
I don't want to get on a transit sidebar here, but Skytrain wasn't the right solution for Vancouver, & still isn't for the Broadway-UBC subway, but it's SNC Lavalin's solution. Meanwhile, #SNCLavalin also has its hooks into BC Ferries while we're on the subject of transit #bcpoli
BC Ferries are only briefly mentioned in this great 2013 piece by @A_MacLeod_Tyee on just how deeply #SNCLavalin has its hooks into BC but SNC is part of what's called the TAM, Terminal & Asset Management group thetyee.ca/News/2013/07/0…
SNC itself: snclavalin.com/en/market-serv… #bcpoli
Back to the connection between #BCHydro & #SNCLavalin, which goes back a long way. Some of it is surreal. In 2000, #BCHydro & #SNCLavalin were involved in a corruption/bribery scandal in Pakistan, bribing Bhutto govt to overcharge for electricity: cbc.ca/news/canada/1-… #bcpoli
BC Hydro had an international wing in the 90s, hence the gas-fired generation plant in Pakistan. When bribery scandal hit, Glen Clark fired Hydro board & installed a former Socred A-G who brought #SNCLavalin in to bail out Hydro. Some background here thebreaker.news/news/bennett-w…
But that's a digression. The time period we're really interested in is the years leading up to Christy Clark's 2014 announcement that #SiteC would proceed despite having been rejected multiple times in the past by prior govts, Hydro itself & despite BCUC disapproval. #bcpoli
Like a zombie, #SiteC was resurrected from the dead around 2007-2010, same time frame Gwyn Morgan was #SNCLavalin Chair. Recall: SNC's name is on early #SiteC reports/designs 2010-11.

Is it tinfoil hat to ask what role SNC has played & is playing in #bcpoli decisions? #cdnpoli
Oh, just for the record, Gwyn Morgan was not only SNC Chair, he was on its ethics committee. Meanwhile, he also sat on the Board of Directors for HSBC during its infamous money-laundering period (which it later paid a record fine for).
rabble.ca/news/2013/04/f… #bcpoli #cdnpoli
The BC Libs pushing financially nonsensical #SiteC makes no sense unless you factor in contracts for #SNCLavalin & other failing corporate cronies. The Peace is a safe BC Lib riding. Jobs? Libs could create far more with same money & in more BC ridings. #bcpoli #SNCgate #cdnpoli
There's only one other credible reason why #SiteC was approved, other than maneuvering by #SNCLavalin, and it's even more disturbing. But I'm going to leave that for another day.

It does seem we are living in some sort of real life, BC version of The Wire. N'est-ce pas? #bcpoli
PS #vanpoli politicians who overlook #SNCLavalin’s role in Vancouver transit and ldevelopment decisions (skytrain/broadway subway) run the risk of looking dangerously naive. #bcpoli
...If I were a journalist I'd be asking John Horgan: did you meet with #SNCLavalin before approving #SiteC? Are there ongoing/possible future SNC-Lavalin contracts at #SiteC? If so, will we have full transparency on them given SNC's criminality & ban by the World Bank?... #bcpoli
..Furthermore, given the federal #SNCLavalin scandal & the company's reputation, I'd ask @jjhorgan if there'll be full disclosure of all meetings with SNC lobbyists over #SiteC & any other project (Skytrain, BC Ferries, etc) (incl. before the May 1 change in rules)...#bcpoli
.. and I'd be asking whether @jjhorgan would be suspending any #SNCLavalin contracts pending review, and whether he'd hand them to @BCUtilitiesCom or the BC Auditor-General for review, and not leave them up to the crown corps that SNC seems to have wormed its way into. #bcpoli
@jjhorgan @BCUtilitiesCom This federal #SNCLavalin scandal has been long overdue. But BC shouldn't imagine it can escape it unscathed. Let's have full transparency on all SNC-Lavalin activities in this province, starting with #BCHydro and #Translink. #bcpoli #vanpoli @bchydro @TransLink
@jjhorgan @BCUtilitiesCom @bchydro @TransLink Final Q: if #SNCLavalin is found guilty in the Libya bribery case, it'd be banned from Govt of Canada contracts for 10 years. Would provincial govts follow suit & ban them? Would any current contracts SNC has here be independently audited at least? #bcpoli business.financialpost.com/investing/trad…
@jjhorgan @BCUtilitiesCom @bchydro @TransLink Interesting side note: #SNLavalin's board Chairman is Kevin Lynch, former Clerk of the Privy Council. It does seem to be quite difficult to see daylight between this corporation and our federal government.
