Recall that Gwyn Morgan, the far-right former head of LNG gas giant Encana before becoming SNC Lavalin board chair, was tight w Gordon Campbell & Harper. Morgan became Christy Clark's chief advisor when Campbell stepped down in 2011 & Christy took over as premier. #bcpoli #sitec

There has never been a smoking gun, but many respected #bcpoli and #SiteC watchers have long questioned if there was lobbying from #SNCLavalin to resuscitate the oft-rejected Site C dam. #SNCLavalin was named as "prime consultant" to Site C in 2010. Timing is interesting...3/x

The period #SiteC was being planned was a high point in #SNCLavalin's bribery &c activities. It was already heading for legal & financial trouble. The World Bank disbarred it from contracts in 2013, citing numerous offences going back years. Gwyn Morgan was chair 2007-13. #bcpoli

I don't want to get on a transit sidebar here, but Skytrain wasn't the right solution for Vancouver, & still isn't for the Broadway-UBC subway, but it's SNC Lavalin's solution. Meanwhile, #SNCLavalin also has its hooks into BC Ferries while we're on the subject of transit #bcpoli

Back to the connection between #BCHydro & #SNCLavalin, which goes back a long way. Some of it is surreal. In 2000, #BCHydro & #SNCLavalin were involved in a corruption/bribery scandal in Pakistan, bribing Bhutto govt to overcharge for electricity: cbc.ca/news/canada/1-… #bcpoli

But that's a digression. The time period we're really interested in is the years leading up to Christy Clark's 2014 announcement that #SiteC would proceed despite having been rejected multiple times in the past by prior govts, Hydro itself & despite BCUC disapproval. #bcpoli

Like a zombie, #SiteC was resurrected from the dead around 2007-2010, same time frame Gwyn Morgan was #SNCLavalin Chair. Recall: SNC's name is on early #SiteC reports/designs 2010-11.

Oh, just for the record, Gwyn Morgan was not only SNC Chair, he was on its ethics committee. Meanwhile, he also sat on the Board of Directors for HSBC during its infamous money-laundering period (which it later paid a record fine for).

...If I were a journalist I'd be asking John Horgan: did you meet with #SNCLavalin before approving #SiteC? Are there ongoing/possible future SNC-Lavalin contracts at #SiteC? If so, will we have full transparency on them given SNC's criminality & ban by the World Bank?... #bcpoli

..Furthermore, given the federal #SNCLavalin scandal & the company's reputation, I'd ask @jjhorgan if there'll be full disclosure of all meetings with SNC lobbyists over #SiteC & any other project (Skytrain, BC Ferries, etc) (incl. before the May 1 change in rules)...#bcpoli

.. and I'd be asking whether @jjhorgan would be suspending any #SNCLavalin contracts pending review, and whether he'd hand them to @BCUtilitiesCom or the BC Auditor-General for review, and not leave them up to the crown corps that SNC seems to have wormed its way into. #bcpoli
