I am so GODDAMN TIRED of cable pundits (and Democrats and even progressive advocates) who are COMPLETELY INCAPABLE of clearly, forcefully explaining why the right wing's “9-month abortion” fever-dream is complete bullshit, and why it’s offensive to even suggest that it’s a thing.
Even the “but only 1 percent of abortions happen after 21 weeks” talking point — while true! and important! — is too fucking weaksauce to suffice when these irresponsible monsters are telling people that abortion providers routinely commit infanticide and Dems are cool with it.
As @DrJenGunter can tell you, THERE IS NO SUCH GODDAMN THING as a 9-month abortion in real-life medical practice.

@DrJenGunter Meanwhile, in the real world where all actual pregnant women live, these bedtime stories are being used to justify laws that literally torture women by forcing them to stay pregnant and go through labor just to keep a dead or dying fetus on life support a little longer.

Also?? This is almost beside the point, but third-trimester abortions are too fucking expensive, involved, and difficult to get for anybody to just have one on a lark.

That's why these bills in NY and VA came up in the first place. In the exceedingly rare case that a woman needs a late abortion, it just doesn't make sense and is needlessly cruel to put excessive barriers in her way. Consulting with a doctor is enough.
And if these chucklefuck GOP lawmakers at both the state and federal level don't even know enough about obstetrics to even get basic medical terminology about gestational age right, it's insanity to suggest they should have any say at all over this medical process.
That and, remember how there's only a handful of providers in the country who will do very late abortions if they're needed?
