Over the years, I’ve come to realize that the entire Republican Party is an abusive boyfriend.

Let me explain. (thread)

He (the GOP) tells you that if you’re suffering, it’s your fault. (Poor people just need to work harder.)

He gaslights you. (The entire Trump administration, the entire theory of trickle-down economics.)

He tells you one minute that you’re beautiful, and the next that you’re a whore. (“I have a wife and daughter” vs. trying to torpedo any semblance of reproductive freedom)

He makes you doubt your own self-worth. (The Democratic Party now constantly second-guesses itself and fears it will offend people by standing up for its own values.)

He tries to turn you against your family. (Attacking immigrants and the basic ideal of a melting-pot, pluralistic society.)

He tries to isolate you from your friends and everything that makes you happy. (Hyper-capitalism, anti-urbanism.)

He tries to control you financially. (Drug tests for welfare recipients, denying paid maternity leave, denying all manner of other basic services that people need for a basic decent standard of living.)

He doesn’t respect your choices and tries to restrict your freedom. (Attacking reproductive rights, voter suppression, other attacks on democratic processes.)

If you call him out for something he’s done wrong, he tries to make it your fault. (Boy, where to start? “Lock her up," attacking Democrats because Kavanaugh is an alleged sexual predator, trickle-down economics again...)

He tells you should be grateful, because other guys would treat you worse. (They’re gonna turn everything socialist and send you to the gulags.)

He tells you he’s sorry and he’ll do better next time.

But he never does.

You can’t change him. You can’t make him treat you better.

All you can do is leave him and take out a restraining order. (Vote Republicans out of office, put the entire party on the ash heap of history.)
