There's an important message for future UK policy in many of the first countries rolling over trade agreements - Faroe Islands, Chile, Israel, Eastern and Southern Africa, Southern Africa - all export food and drink products to the UK

We hear the UK Government is thinking of eliminating all tariffs, or tariffs on products we do not produce. But this will reduce the incentive for agricultural exporters to agree to trade deals, as well as reducing the preference for developing countries
Not all trade deals are dominated by food of course, but even the Government press release on CETA issued two months ago mentions an increase in UK food exports to Canada gov.uk/government/new…
We tend to talk about new trade issues like data and digital, but in a sense President Trump has illustrated that we're still in the age of tariffs. The UK's trade policy needs to be wise to this reality. /end
