Re: ongoing Iran-Pakistan tensions over Jaish ul-Adl, I discuss the broader recent history of tensions between Tehran and Islamabad in my recent @USIP special report (pp. 8-10): usip.org/sites/default/…
In 2014, Iran’s interior minister threatened to have Iranian forces cross the border into Balochistan after a Jaish ul-Adl attack. Now, Iran has threatened that Pakistan will “pay high price” for its inaction against JuA in.reuters.com/article/iran-p…
Times have changed; Iran is additionally forthright about what it sees as Saudi/UAE support for groups like JuA: “The treacherous Saudi and UAE governments should know that Iran’s patience has ended and we will no longer stand your secret support for these anti-Islam criminals”
Iran to avenge attack on border guards: IRGC Cmdr irna.ir/en/News/832111…
"'If Pakistan doesn't do its duties in fighting terrorism, Iran will fight the terrorist groups organized by regional and extra regional intelligence services,' said Major-General Mohammad-Ali Jafari"
"'If Pakistan doesn’t do its duties in this regard, Iran, based on the international laws, has the right to counter the adjacent threats in the neighboring countries and will punish the terrorists that are the mercenaries of regional and extra regional intelligence services.'"
That language is similar to previous Iranian threats to cross the border and strike at JuA infrastructure in Balochistan.
