X : Have you heard about the Labour / Tory split to form a new party?
Me : Yes. I'm expecting it to be more like "resign the whip" and have a tiny gathering in a tea shop to whinge about why no-one listens to them. The media will claim it's "dramatic" ... they need to sell copy.
... excellent. News is that 7 MPs have actually left Labour to join a new party - theguardian.com/politics/live/… - well, finally they had the bottle. That'll save a deselection headache.
... what we need now is just a few Tories and the sparse Liberal Democrats joining and we can have a new | nouveau | neo Liberal party.
X : Don't you think that this split is damaging?
Me: No, for the first time since 1994, the labour party is aligned with its membership. This is a good thing. That a bunch of neoliberals can't stomach that ... who cares. I'm delighted and wish them well.
