The psychology of some leave voters now hardened into 'just leave' brexiters and some anti-Corbyn 'centrists' seems remarkably similar. They took an initial position for many reasons and rather than the evidence changing their position it merely changes the arguments for it. 1/
In the case of the 'politically homeless' it's hard to see what many of them (nice people, who consider themselves to want a just and fair world) have as a problem with the current labour party leadership and the membership-supported policy raft. 2/

See
It may be that they struggle with the radicalism (not in global terms, but in recent UK political terms) of a set of transformative policies that could make for a fairer UK (and world). 3/
It may be because the status quo has done them _OK_, in recent times - they may see the odd effect but they're not on Universal Credit or using foodbanks. It may be that they are nervous of change & aren't close enough (or making the connections) to see why it is so needed. 4/
It may be that the really scary stories of what has happened since 2010 undermine the pretty comfortable perceived reality that they experience - and it scares them that they didn't know more, that they didn't _do_ more. It hurts their view of themselves as good people. 5/
But it's like this:

Those literally staving under Tory austerity will still starve under a Tory government if we remain in the EU. Whether we remain in the EU or not, they will not starve under an anti-austerity Labour government. 7/n
The NHS will still be privatised under a Tory government if we remain in the EU. Whether we remain in the EU or not, a left-wing Labour will never let that happen. 8/n
ANY Tory government will be by the rich for the rich. We need them gone. Nothing is so important right now, this needs to be the focus for all that care - there are many would profess to care but can't see this.

I find that hard to grasp.

'Centrists' or hard-leavers might not recognise this in themselves, which is the point. it seems to be a form of cognitive dissonance, because it doesn't work on any logical level. This is the challenge (or one of them) the left needs to meet to get those people on board.

It's also how the anti-Brexit lot need to approach the question of remaining, or winning any further referendum. 11/n
