It’s not the worst oversight in Oscar history, it may not even be an oversight, but The Martian is the movie from that year (2016) that you’re most likely to watch again and again.
Also (looks around nervously) Spotlight isn’t even in the top ten journo movies of all time.
But better than the Post which was...fine.
Someday I will own my definitive ranking but until then, I suggest the following journo movies:
