Just spoke to lawyers for ex-Trump aides who flipped in the Mueller probe (Gates, George P) and lawyers who negotiated with Mueller team for other witnesses.
They say Mueller is effective, intimidating, tracking collusion.

And we should remember for all the discussion of Mueller, there are still only 2 sources of firsthand info about the probe:
-what Mueller releases via court filings
-information released by people who interact directly with Mueller's team- witnesses, defendants & their lawyers

When reporters (or others) want hard intel on the Mueller probe -- things that people saw or experienced -- we need those witnesses or their lawyers.
The great reporting we see on WHO Mueller interviewed, what his team is asking -- that's coming from witnesses or lawyers.

It often comes piecemeal in anonymous quotes and tips, like those stories about what Don McGahn saw at the WH and what he told Mueller's team about it.
As there are clues Mueller may be closer to finishing, and as some people's cases or roles are resolved (George P served his time), we may start to hear a bit more from people on the record, under their own name - which has a different kind of value
And lawyers who faced the Mueller probe bring a special combo- firsthand experience with what went down AND a larger context for how these investigations work
