My final act as Neoliberal Shill will be to define what "neoliberal foreign policy" should look like:

1. Apologize for all the bad stuff we did
2. Make lots of alliances, and urge allies to be more free and democratic
3. Support robust international institutions
4. Support peacekeeping efforts by the UN and by local coalitions in failed states
5. Use trade treaties to strengthen allies
6. Direct investment toward poor countries to help them industrialize
7. Don't military intervene unless we or an ally is directly threatened
Finally, a neoliberal foreign policy should not support repression or foment civil wars. Definitely no Pinochets or Contras.

Partnering with repressive regimes is OK only in exchange for them becoming less oppressive. Burma being a good example.
The goal of neoliberal foreign policy should be to create a world where every country is rich, secure, and free, and where global problems like climate change can be addressed by robust international institutions.
This is a very far-off dream, and progress is very hard, and there will inevitably be missteps. But keeping this vision as the fixed endpoint of foreign policy will help us avoid many of the mistakes we made in the 20th century, while repeating the successes.
