Mike Leach on audibles: why it's important to be intelligent, versatile and aggressive at the line of scrimmage
"You can't develop people into being accurate after 17-18. In the 4th-6th grade he’s the guy that can take the snowball & hit the stop sign"
1. Accuracy
2. Good Decisions
3. Quick Feet
4. Fast
5. Strong Arm

“I’ve gotten fairly artful at it”
Simply glorious
Space is sideline-to-sideline & 30-yards downfield. Attack it by alignment or running there. Balance yds between all 5 skill positions (personnel), attacking dimension of that space.
+ the 80-yard dash
We were discussing how NE is one of the few NFL teams to quickly go pass-heavy vs a great run D after unsuccessfully testing the run on the first drive or two.
Coach immediately brought up 2001 vs K State. It was his 2nd yr as a HC....
So Coach knew they'd need to pass v K St, but tested the run on the 1st drive. No luck. So he went pass heavy & blew out K State.
I went back & looked up the stats...
3 & out
2 RB runs (2 YPC)
1 pass
0 1st downs
Texas Tech trailed 7-0
Coach Leach's next 50 play calls:
44 passes
only 6 RB runs
Leach & QB Kliff Kingsbury outscored K State 31-6 going 88% pass on those 50 plays
Won 38-19
409 pass yds
Ran some late w a huge lead
In the year 2019, the NFL literally had a HC lose a playoff game by unsuccessfully sticking with the run & refusing to adapt.
