Tomorrow, Congress is expected to vote on a measure condemning anti-Semitism "in response" to Ilhan Omar's critique of the Israel lobby, which (a) facilitates US enablement of Israeli crimes & (b) undermines the First Amendment in an effort to shield Israel from criticism. (2/?)
If u remember anything, let it be this: The Israel lobby is NOT the American Jewish community. The American Jewish community is diverse & includes opponents of Israeli policy: big constituencies for liberal centrist 'J street' & progressive 'Jewish Voice for Peace', etc. (3/?)
Likewise, the Israel lobby is also diverse, & includes evangelical Christians (massive groups like 'Christians United for Israel) who support Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine because of weird end-times prophecy crap. (4/?)
In an effort to smear Ilhan, many in Congress want you to believe that her statements about the Israel lobby are actually directed at the American Jewish community, but that's a goddamn lie. What this smear is ACTUALLY about is Israel, as @RepJuanVargas just clarified (5/?) 
Sorry, Congressman @RepJuanVargas, but questioning US support for a government that is bombing civilians & murdering journalists & medical personnel isn't just acceptable, it's a moral obligation for every American who objects to our tax dollars financing these crimes. (6/?)
Passing a resolution condemning anti-Semitism "in response" to Ilhan's criticism of Israel is every bit as absurd & deserving of ridicule as Congress passing a resolution condemning Islamophobia "in response" to criticism of human rights violations by Muslim governments. (7/?)
Conflating anti-Semitism with criticism of Israel is itself a contemptible form of anti-Semitism, because it strips progressive Jews (who object to Israeli policies) of their agency, & blames Jews collectively for atrocities committed by the horrendous Israeli government. (8/9).
If you speak up against anti-Semitism AND against Israel's crimes (as we all should), you'll find that there is a huge movement that has your back, because these struggles are more intertwined than they seem. Stand with us against bigotry and injustice! (9/9 END).
