@HardballChris talking abt Trump's hiding his grades, his jealousy of Obama, etc. asserts that Obama was "named Editor of the Harvard Law Review in a blind test, no one knew who he was, whether he was Black, etc. He got it on merit." This is nonsense.+
Here's how it works (as a former editor of the Harvard Law Review): at the end of the 1st year, the top 30 or so students are selected (both by grades and by a writing competition) for the Law Review. This selection is, clearly, an academic distinction.
In their 2nd year, Review members perform subordinate editing and research functions under direction of the 3rd year. At the end of their 2nd year, looking toward assumption of overall responsibility in their 3rd year, 2nd year Review members meet to select a President.
Typically on a Sat. morning, the entire 2nd year meets in a free-form session that approximates an Iowa caucus. People announce their own candidacies, and speak abt their plans for the Review if elected. People speak in favor of candidates who haven't put themselves forward.
There are multiple ballots. People drop out of the running, and make speeches throwing their support to remaining candidates. The field is winnowed down, until a winner emerges. This is the process by which Obama became President of the Harvard Law Review. End.
