I think that a little like #MeToo we are seeing a gradual public awakening to how racism infects our institutions, consciously and unconsciously. Long process, perhaps really starting with the Lawrence Inquiry. Keep it up!
Can I recommend that anyone interested in this issue follow @miqdaad but also read chapter 6 of the Macpherson report. It’s so useful and gets to the heart of institutional racism. I think most people misunderstand what it is assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
@miqdaad I do hope that the EHRC goes ahead and investigates Labour as I believe it’s recommendations can be used for all political parties. Though labour also has some quite Labour-specific issues

Important development.

The Labour Party may now be investigated by the equality and human rights regulator which it itself established.

Would be only the second ever statutory investigation. First was into the Met Police.
I have been saying for a while that it’s high time the UK’s human rights organisations step in on this issue. Hopefully the EHRC have the objectivity and expertise to make a positive contribution to this for the sake of the Jewish community, the Labour Party and the country

The key words here:

“Please let me know what you think and how you would like us to proceed”

That is seeking an instruction, not merely a view.
I think what Laura says in the email is sensible, by the way. But this is about whether the process is conducted fairly, ie within the rule book (where there is no mention of directions from the leaders’ office re suspensions at the investigation stage) or not
And, secondly, whether the leadership office and party has lied about who is involved with, and calling the shots in, the disciplinary process.

I've had little to say re: Levi Sanders other than to note the irony of Berner complaints about political dynasties. But this thread makes it clear: he's got some issues w race, gender, and is an un-self-aware jerk who complains when Chelsea Clinton publicly voices an opinion.

I try to vaguely explain that it’s not that simple, but many people don’t seem to understand. So now I’ll tell my story, hoping it will help people get why coming forward isn’t always so easy. Why sometimes fighting for what’s right brings pain, not justice.

People who have been abused disclose the abuse WHEN & IF they feel safe doing so.
People who have been abused disclose the abuse WHEN & IF they are confident they will be believed.
People who have been abused disclose the abuse WHEN & IF they feel doing so will make a difference.
Now, most of the time, as a society, we do a shitty job of creating an environment that is conducive to people disclosing. We deny, we excuse, we victim-blame, we question people's motives for disclosing, we accuse them of lying, and we enable abusers in positions of power.
