America has no problem running periodicals and endorsing theories of Black males as toxic, pathological and violent. Any disparity is interpreted as their lack and deficiency. CNN puts out a chart saying 13% of BM voted for Trump & now with no evidence BM are Trump supporters.
Despite Black males reporting higher rates of being "made to penetrate" numbers than rape over a 12 month period in CDC NISVS data, not ONE Black scholar has investigated this phenomena. Stories of Black boys being raped by Black women, caretakers, & men are all over youtube
Yet there is not one study besides mine and Utley's on this topic. But we support Black feminist public intellectuals appearing on MSNBC, & the Breakfast Club who spout these stereotypes with nothing more than blogs as evidence.
But let me tell you what upsets people...BM presenting the actual data of mutual sexual victimization, using science & peer reviewed literature, or BM talking about their sexual abuse. If BM concede they are pathological & trash that's intersectional,
But if BM challenge these insidious myths with data, facts, and new theories they are anti-feminist and hoteps. This is the most anti-intellectual bullshit I have ever seen.
This is why we need to be suspicious of the racist logics endorsed as GENDER THEORIES and applied to Black men...most of the arguments we see today a/b BM were made by Subculture of Violence theorists & Susan BrownMiller decades ago.
Our current frames insist despite all evidence that the majority of violence amongst Blacks are caused by Black males and argues contrary the sociological evidence that Black men are uniquely violent. Despite the ridiculousness of this claim: since BM are made violent like any
other group through trauma, poverty, abuse, age of witnessing violence, etc. Black academics are told the path to social mobility is not through careful scholarship & research but the endorsement of negative stereotypes a/b poor Black males.
These academics don't talk about mental health, poverty, or abuse...they arm themselves with narratives of toxic Black males and appeals to white liberals for recognition. This is a hustle that BM are told must never be exposed.
In short, BM academics are told that it is more important to be liked and subservient to ideology, even when it's empirically false, than a top notch scholar.
Let me get this straight, over the last 5 years Black men have been called rapists, the number 1 killers of Black women in IPH, and toxic dangers to our community. Where is the scholarship engaging these myths?
Not a single scholar working on Black male studies negates the sexual violence of Black women & girls...yet every intersectional account of BM negates or erases the sexual violence BM suffer at the hands of BW, BM and society more generally. Where is the scholarship on BM abuse?
How do we explain the high levels of Blk female perpetrated violence and child abuse? How do we explain BM victims of IPV? How do we explain BM early sexual abuse? Where are the articles on BM victims of rape? Where is the engagement with the decade of literature by BM on gender
before Black feminism & intersectionality? Why is it that asking fundamental questions about what literature is being produced and why certain kinds are not is taboo for Black scholars?
So we can only think one way? No one would ever utter such a ridiculous comment amongst white scholars, yet for Black thinkers understanding racism, sexual violence, and economic exploitation can only be engaged on the most narrow of terms and theories.
We market ourselves to white institutions & white liberals as woke & committed to liberation, yet our rhetoric & research are little more than carceral logics justifying the removal, isolation or death of racialized men from their communities. We theorize their deaths as freedom.
Black public intellectuals appear though out white media spreading lies about BM that directly contradict peer reviewed consensus and evidence. These Blk spokespeople present caricatures of the Blk community and condemn them for popularity & the gaining of a white audience.
The theoretical and speculative engagement of Black people should at the least be gauged as having some responsibility to the scientific findings concerning Black people.
*Note: Black academics have an implied existential qualifier of: some, many, most in liberal arts.
