Me : There has been nothing to say. It all comes down to next week, the motions, the votes ... we shall see where we are.

X : What about the dangers of no deal?
Me : I don't see it that way. I don't have an issue with WTO. I can also see the benefits of a compromise such as EEA docked to EFTA. But we shall see what happens.

X : The map is not the territory!
Me : Of course not. But there is a reason why military history has used maps for communication, learning and strategy rather than relying on verbal stories. Topgraphical intelligence has a long history of delivering results.
X : But maps have perspective and could lead to the wrong action!
Me : All maps are imperfect and don't tell you what to do. But even with this you can challenge a strategy based upon a map far more effectively than with a story because you can learn from context.
X : I disagree!
Me : Fair enough. Are you expecting me to try and persuade you?
X : I want you to prove maps are more effective than stories.
Me : Ignoring that maps are a very advanced form of visual story telling, is military history not enough?
X : No.

X : What do you think about professional politicians?
Me : I would like all MPs to have relevant qualifications.
X : A degree?
Me : Useful but more important is 12 months living on dole + council estate + 12 months "manual" work i.e. labourer, cleaner + state educated.
X : You'd ban any MP who hasn't been unemployed for 12 months?
Me : On the dole. Benefits can be provided for training / apprenticeship / education. I spent a year on the dole doing a masters. It teaches you the value of money and the stress of poverty.
X : Manual work?
Me : It teaches you the meaning of work, of humility and an appreciation for others. You can't get high and mighty with memories of your hands down some loo.
X : Estate?
Me : It teaches you empathy for the plight of others and the hardships they face.

Gosh, back in 2012/13 when I was saying "OpenStack is a dead duck", I use to get all sorts of grief because a common idea was it would "take over the cloud market" - searchcloudcomputing.techtarget.com/feature/Open-s… ... nowadays, people still claim it's a "success" because of its use in niches.
... let us be clear, OpenStack pursued its "differentiate on API" play leading to a collective prisoner dilemma. The pursuit of differentiation on the one thing that absolutely did not matter - the API - rather than co-opting the existing standard is what led to its problems.
... as I said before, as I still say now, its only path to any future success relies on China and the long game. Even then, it'll just be an invisible subsystem.

Irrespective of how MPs vote this afternoon it’s EU leaders who have final say on an extension to the Brexit process. Will they/won’t they say yes? How long for + how punitive will conditions be? Like so many things to do with #Brexit the answer is: we don’t know for sure yet 1

A not-so-short thread which I hope simplifies a seemingly never-ending process but one which could have an abrupt end in less than 40 days. /1
Some context first: The key problem is the backstop - the Irish Protocol to us its proper name

It’s a section of the Withdrawal Agreement (WA) - a 585-page legal text which, together with a shorter Political Declaration (PD), forms the divorce treaty between UK & the EU. /2
The two texts - the WA & the PD - were the consequence of nearly two years of negotiations.

They were finalised + agreed by both the UK government (@10DowningStreet) and the EU (@EU_Commission) late last year. /3

Despite her #BREXIT deal being defeated by biggest margin a government has lost a vote ever maybot seeks concessions on backstop despite being told to bog off by the EU with no realistic hope of a different answer
Corbyn meanwhile refuses to talk #BREXIT without no deal being ruled out despite knowing she can't do this whilst maybot makes no concessions either.

1. A strange disease stalks the land. When a person is confronted by well documented consequences of leaving the EU without a deal they simply grunt "Project fear!". This is odd because we are not talking about #Brexit economic projections...
2. It all comes down to this little thing you might have heard of called Article 50. The pertinent part being "The Treaties shall cease to apply".
3. You see, at the moment we have a deal. We have EU membership. We are part of the treaties. And if we leave and we do not secure a withdrawal agreement and subsequent arrangements for trade then we do not have a deal. The Treaties shall cease to apply.
