im still anti-urbanism but ive been traveling through some southern and midwestern cities with a friend and many of the smaller or lesser known ones are surprisingly charming with awesome history. many still have that classic america "slightly euro but decidedly american" flavor
its pretty great when youre reminded that america used to build awesome extremely powerful architecture, even for relatively unimportant random buildings in their cities. we can reignite this consciousness and do stuff like this again
in most cities youll go to there will be random little "historic house" museums that are literally just an old preserved house you can get a tour of. i highly recommend checking these places out, they are often a window into some surprisingly bad ass history most are unaware of
consider the potential lesson of: this chair
speaking of traveling through cities and cool things youll find there i was visiting kentucky last week and went to a museum there. gonna post some general aesthetic things i saw.
go to museums.
we (western culture) can make some truly immense stuff when we're drawing power from god and one another:
when im in a museums american section i always look for things that, to me, embody the american vibe and perspective in a unique way
this wooden room from england had some of the coolest corner carvings (they have a technical name but i forget what it is) that ive ever seen
heres the info for those above pics. not sure who was who, they were laid out in a weird way.
i love when biblical scenes are set into hardcore neoclassical architecture, the artist is like "yeah this didnt happen but it looks dank so whatever"
museums are great date spots. good way to get a readout on someones vibe. anyway these are thomas cole, sargent (one of the best american painters ever), and jean leon gerome. gerome is a personal fave, lots of right wing memes use his images actually, he rules.
