Re the attacks on @AndrewScheer for not mentioning Muslims or white supremacy in his first tweet on the outrage in New Zealand. Of course he should have mentioned both in the first statement but let me give you an example of the inherent bias in the Canadian media. @cdnpolie
3 years ago, in his 1st statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day @justintrudeau made no mention of the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust. The Sun's @MarkBonokoski alerted me to it & I wrote about it here: Trudeau, the Holocaust and Jews torontosun.com/2016/01/30/tru…
For pointing this out, I was criticized by several members of the parliamentary press gallery on twitter who informed me it wasn't a story and asked me what I was suggesting. In fairness, none of them were the major media players we see regularly on social media.
However, to my knowledge, I was the only person at a major daily to comment on the issue which subsequently received significant coverage outside of Canada, particularly in the Jewish and Israeli media.
Then, a year later, Trudeau's office did it again, omitting Jews from any mention on Ottawa's new Holocaust memorial. I wrote about it here: Holocaust Trudeau erases Jews from the Holocaust, again. It received some coverage elsewhere but not much torontosun.com/2017/10/04/tru…
This is the thing to understand about bias. It's not just what stories the media cover, but how they cover them, what incidents they consider news and what incidents they don't, and what omissions by politicians they suggest are evidence of unconscious bigotry & which they don't.
Sadly, it was ever thus. And it always will be.
