Despicable.
There’s no right to bring up your child in a bigoted illusion that parts of humanity simply don’t exist.
Honestly, every single pronouncement from a government minister nowadays feels like it is dragging us incrementally further back in time. Goodbye tolerance; goodbye enlightenment.

While researching Book 2 I’ve discovered a fun fact.

The author of almost every Daily Mail legal aid fake news piece from 2008-2017 was Home Affairs editor James Slack.

He also wrote the Enemies of the People headline.

In 2017, he was appointed Theresa May’s official spokesman
Honestly, if she was still going to be in office in 2020, I could write this entire book just about the damage that Theresa May has done to the rule of law. Her long-standing contempt for the constitution of a country that she claims repeatedly to speak for is almost unrivalled.
Obviously this story is far from the first of its kind. But it’s a depressing indicator of the frequency of the revolving door b/w “independent” journalism and the corridors of government that I, as someone who pays a bit of attention to bad law reporting, missed this at the time

I think, legally-speaking, quite a few people are confusing “constitutional crisis” with “arrogant pig-headedness not getting its way”.
“I played brinkmanship with the country’s future for self-interest and political gain, and I got outplayed” is an odd sympathy card to attempt.
This, after all, is Theresa May’s long-standing modus operandi. She ignores anything she doesn’t want to hear - be it advice, court rulings or legislation - and keeps mindlessly repeating the same doomed approach in the hope that something will change. See eg Abu Qatada.

Quite a few questions this evening about the sentence of Paul Mitchell, the man who pleaded guilty to assaulting Aston Villa footballer Jack Grealish. So a quick thread:
Paul Mitchell was charged with battery, contrary to s39 Criminal Justice Act 1988.

He was also charged with an offence of encroaching onto a football pitch (presumably s4 Football Offences Act 1991).
He pleaded guilty to both offences at his first appearance today before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court, the offences having been committed yesterday. A good live account of today’s court proceedings can be found here: birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-…
