1) Dear Democrats, the lesson of the GOP is a serious one and one that needs to be highlighted and hammered home, before "our" turn in the barrel again. Our Founders never intended for Politics specifically Congressmen, Congresswomen, or Senators to be a profession.
2) If the time comes that you can't maintain your values, your honor, or see your way clear to do what must be done to protect Our Nation's Democracy, or chose to protect a criminal purely for the sake of your own or your parties power YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS RUNNING FOR OFFICE.
3) We are witnessing the end and death of a GOP party that did exactly that. Lindsey Graham is the poster child for that. As Rick Tyler on MSNBC said today, "The GOP I knew is dead, and they aren't coming back."
4) That party, while holding many philosophies Democrats strongly disagreed with, they kept a semblance of honor, could be counted on for serious National Defense and would perform their due diligence of oversight. That party is no more.
5) We now have a GOP that is content to play Patti-cake with Putin for a sniff of Oligarch rubles, a GOP that refuses to perform honest oversight, a GOP that will break every law, and strip away OUR CONSTITUTION, and DEMOCRACY itself to protect and continue
6) to hold their seats and the privilege and power that goes with it. The coming years will require a vigilance like nothing we've known as a people to prevent another Trump be they democrat or republican from ever taking over the Presidency for the purpose of subverting
7) Our Constitution and or our Democracy. We know from the Clinton Presidency that taxation and prosperity CAN be balanced to take care of the debt. In time nearly all of the goals of the Progressive Wing of our Party can be realized, but it will not happen over the course
8) of one election cycle. It took a revolution and 241 years to arrive at the point we are now. In one election we have gone from the marvel of the free world to a laughing stock "banana" Republic in 2 short years.
9) HRC was not a "perfect" candidate, and yes took too much for granted, however, the one thing she did understand is that the electorate doesn't take 180-degree swings in the political spectrum well. To that end, we learned a term called incrementalism. She used that word often
10) and for a good reason. The average American (think independent voters) don't do well with wholesale 180-degree pendulum swings in our political process. It is with that in mind that we as Democrats need to approach the 2020 elections. I'm not advocating for the same old game
11) I am certain significant and substantial changes can be made to better and lift all citizen and corporate ships, without throwing babies out with the bathwater. We have five major issues of importance to address and put before the American people in 2020.
12)First and foremost is Climate Change, it's a no brainer, but how to respond and achieve that goal under the time and budget constraints we have will require some study and some serious work, to minimize employment impacts of dislocated energy sector workers and as we shift
13) from carbon-based fuels. Neck and Neck with that is our health care system. American's can't keep going back and forth from having it to not having it. As the current crisis manufactured by Trump and Company. Both sides will have to sit down and literally hammer out a plan
14) The case for it is made by the military, and industrial sites that have contaminated our aquifers to a point it will take 100's if not 1000's of years for Americans to have safe water again. People don't knowingly select bad places to live and in fact,
15) don't know their water is a threat to their health until it's too late and they're already filing for bankruptcy relief from the medical bills they've racked up. The same can be said about air pollution. Consider the Benzine fire in Houston today. All of these things demand
16) an effective National Health Care single payer system to ensure that people can get treatment for at the very least catastrophic care caused by these events. To force people to pay for catastrophic health care caused by industry and the military industrial complex, and the
17) is nothing short of a crime against humanity. Taxation is another big issue, the key will be to work it out without going with pure socialism and nationalizing the factors of production, to do that requires intensive planning. Earlier I mentioned not throwing the baby out
18) with the bath water. The days of pure capitalism are long gone despite what the GOP would wish, and they know it. Pure Socialism or Communism in any form has ended in abject failure. While the Nation's Government has a right to manage parts of capitalism for a host of reasons
19) to kill the goose that laid the golden egg, the most robust economic engine the world has ever seen would be beyond foolhardy. But manage it in a fashion that keeps everyone prosperity on the rise, absolutely. Universal Health Care, Clean Air, and Clean Water, A national
20} background check for the purchase of firearms. Free College tuition at community colleges for those who can't afford college but show the smarts to make it, can likely be done, but don't hold your breath on Americans being willing to pay with their tax dollars for everyone.
21) Finally, renewing the Voting Rights Act, this may actually be as important as climate change. The idea that in 2020 any United States Citizen could be disenfranchised of their vote, because of their skin color, their sexuality, the fact they are just a college student, must
22) come to an end once and for all. Democracy works when we all get our say and input by our vote. Forcing people to stand in line for hours, gerrymandering to guarantee a result, throwing out peoples voter registrations wholesale, all contribute to feelings of helplessness
23) all designed by the GOP to break the will of the very people they profess to care about simply because they know they will not have their support If the GOP truly wants the people to support them they know how to get it, and it is not by kowtowing to the 1%, it's not by lying
24) it's by becoming honest brokers, fulfilling their Constitutional duties of oversight, and not cheating Average Americans at every turn as they have done for years in the name of a dollar. We have an opportunity to address all of these issues and more, but if we move to full
25) tilt socialism America will not only reject it, but it may also make it possible for 45 to actually win re-election. No way you say? Think back to 2016 the world was saying no way. So stop saying that. Power is never ever just handed over without a fight, and it is why the
26) rule of law is vital to Democracy, our Constitution, and every man, woman, and child in the country. Understand incrementalism and the role it plays in Democracy. When it's doable do it, but do it within the boundaries of reason, and don't throw the baby
27) out with the bathwater. Democrats have a unique opportunity, to affect degrees of real change. But if we try to make it all happen in 1 election cycle, in four years or less we will be back playing the same game. We will be asking what happened, from a far worse position.
