On the eve of #NSWVotes2019, Australia’s coal industry paid for a 10-page special report in the @australian

I forked out the $3 so you didn’t have to, so here it is... 1/n
Page 1, @MineralsCouncil CEO Tania Constable claims new coal fired power stations + CCS “have the potential to reduce emissions to almost zero”

Except it’s not happening anywhere
theaustralian.com.au/business/minin…
Also an ad from our friends at @bhp, who seem to forget the ultimatum they gave the MCA... in 2017! afr.com/business/minin…
And poor old @perrybwilliams really got stitched up, having to pen a “balanced” piece for a coal pamphlet... theaustralian.com.au/business/minin…
On to page 2, where Martin Oettinger from the “research” unit at Coal21 talks up HELE technology.

Where have I heard that before?
Also on page 2, an op ed from former Liberal staffer & @NSWMC CEO Stephen Galilee which pretty much speaks for itself... theaustralian.com.au/business/minin…
Closing out page 2 was an ad from the climate deniers at New Hope Group
Page 3 is dominated by a job ad from @AngloAmerican, who must be struggling to recruit people to wreck the planet
Also on page 3, Rosanne Barrett reckons “modern miners clean up after themselves”.

Except for the 60,000 abandoned sites around Australia... abc.net.au/news/2017-02-1…
Page 4, another puff piece for Adani. Boring.
Page 4 has another ad from New Hope and a hit job on @burragubba by Jared Owens. I won’t even link to that one.
Page 5, “Economics” editor Adam Creighton reckons @Glencore pays taxes. Enough said.
Page 5 also has an ad featuring the MCA’s equivalent of the Marlboro man. How appropriate.
Page 6 has some really *exciting* stats about coal, another ad from New Hope, and one more from the Bloomfield Group.
Page 7 sees Paul Garvey spruik for New Hope’s Queensland New Acland mine, and an ad from Coal21, the same geniuses that brought us #littleblackrock
Pages 8-9 have a spread on carbon capture & storage, plus ads from New Hope, Whitehaven & @Glencore
Except that the coal industry itself isn’t even serious about CCS.

In FY18, the industry’s own research body Coal21 had revenue of just $33m, of which it spent $3.9m on comms!

$30m research on CCS from $60 billion revenue is laughable.
This *special report* closes with a piece on jobs, and ads from ACARP and Centennial Coal who claim to be “keeping the lights on”
Finally, there is this shocker from Katrina Grace Kelly who blames noisy, “mentally stunted” keyboard activists for demonising coal theaustralian.com.au/business/econo…
I know, it’s just the Oz.

But it’s shameless the day before #NSWVotes2019, where climate has featured heavily.

It also makes a joke of commitments made by @bhp & @RioTinto

Over to you @actmatthews @ActOnClimate100 @IGCC_Update
