Thanks @rickhasen for exposing this issue for debate. @philipbstark & @rad_atl & @OSET, please weigh in here. What is missing is the understanding that the BMD (sometimes barcoded) ballot is not a reliable source record for auditing. BMD proponents are missing that point.
Thanks to @rickhasen blog, I saw this Tweet response from Becker that he blocks me from seeing. The bill does indeed require audits---audits that CANNOT be performed according to auditing experts (and common sense.) The ballot cannot be verified by the voter = unauditable.

2/ This unauditable BMD technology is being adopted at rapid rates by counties across the country without understanding the security risks and the inability to audit the results. The nation's leading expert in post-election auditing @philipbstark says--
3/ _ @OSET report explains that there is “no way for the voter to verify what choices are actually being counted, and hence for the majority of solutions, the ballot cannot be said to be “verifiable” by the voter.” [GA new bill requires voter-verifiable ballot. ES&S cannot meet.]

3/ The @OversightDems investigation is a huge development because, among other reasons, they have subpoena power. @PAAuditorGen did incredible work exposing close ties between voting machine vendors & election officials in PA w/o subpoena power.

A recent study shows that most voters don’t review the machine-marked text (even when told to do so) & won’t notice if it is manipulated to change their votes. Also there’s no rzn to think GA will require robust manual audits of this text. And what if the power grid goes down? 1/
