Oh no. Dennis Skinner, old-fashioned Lexiter who’s more often than not followed the whip on Brexit, broke out for no deal. Another childhood hero bites the dust.
Some decent non-zealous Tories too - Andrew Mitchell, Maria Miller, Tracey Crouch, all moderates from the ‘party of business’ voting for a crashed economy, food shortages and global humiliation. The toxin has taken hold now. It may take a generation to cure, if it even can
PS Shout-out to the king of banter Huw Merriman, the only MP who voted both for no-deal and a people’s vote. Gotta love that guy. Someone maybe take him aside for a quiet word tomorrow? Thks
On a serious note, can we please give Labour a break for a day or two? Jeremy Corbyn, who doesn’t want a people’s vote, voted for one- because it’s the right thing to do and in interests of the country. Only 8 Tories did the same. This national catastrophe belongs to one party.
One last oddity: only 10 Tories brave enough to endorse SNP’s startlingly controversial notion that if we’re heading off cliff we should stop car. 3 were ministers (Alan Duncan, Mark Field, Stephen Hammond) and one a whip (Mike Freer). Gyimah abstained, Jo Johnson voted against!
