Right now there's a fascinating, massively consequential labor fight happening in Hollywood. What makes it unique is that it's not your usual battle between workers and owners, but between workers and their agents.
The Writers Guild is taking on the big four agencies, whose agents represent their members and asking to reform a number of practices they say increasingly put agents in direct conflict of interest w their own clients.
It's an extremely consequential fight for the future of the entertainment industry, but also really hard to understand! This explainer video from WGA does a very effective job of explaining the union's objections.
