1/ In a healthy democracy the referendum would have allowed all those most affected to vote. There would have been a supermajority provision, a well informed debate, a crime-free campaign & provision for an informed consent vote at the end of negotiations.

3/ In a healthy democracy the majority of the press by circulation would not have operated as the unified propaganda mouthpiece of a hard-right faction, and the BBC would have respected its duty to inform rather than giving equal coverage to lies & facts in the name of balance.

It is absolutely necessary to distinguish between the occasional lie which merely serves to deceive & a climate of lies which undermines democracy. This effect may be accidental or it may be deliberate. I believe the latter.

2/ What we are seeing are tightly linked transatlantic networks peddling lies on a scale unparalleled in modern UK and US politics. It is hard to see this behaviour as other than coordinated.
3/ When lies predominate facts & reasons lose their power to persuade. Without a common ground of agreed facts debate turns into shouting, insults and anger, people sink into disillusion & apathy or descend into the politics of emotion and prejudice.

2/ Tory Brexiters have repeatedly called for regulations to be slashed, that means health, safety, food and environmental regulations. Often this is couched in terms of the requirements for a trade deal with the US. We all know about chlorinated chicken.
3/ Right-wing think tanks including leading Brexiter MEP Daniel Hannan's IFT and the US Cato Institute called for the NHS to be opened to foreign competition and a bonfire of consumer and environmental regulations

We are living through an extraordinary time. We resist everything that is #notnormal. History will record a cruel, chaotic, corrupt regime that is swampy like a bottomless bog. History will remember a treasonous fake president, bent on destroying our planet and our civil rights.
When this dark time is remembered, a few things will stand out, how a D-list tv celeb with a giant ego parlayed his brand into a money-maker by monetizing the WH after conspiring with a hostile foreign power to steal the election. How he was aided and abetted by Republicans.
History will remember the stain of separating families at the border, caging kids, drugging them, making them prey for sexual abuse while traumatizing them. History will remember that concentration camps in America became normalized.

It appears the votes are there to pass the #GOPTaxScam thru the Senate. A few things to keep in mind:

1. This isn't over. Rs have to go to conference or the House has to pass the Senate version. 1/
2. Public opinion is with us on this. A majority of Americans don't like the #GOPTaxScam, and most don't think they will actually see a tax cut because of it. (They're right.)

Repubs are passing a deeply unpopular bill. It makes their donors happy, but we won't forget. 2/
3. You mad? You absolutely should be. This bill repeals a core provision of ACA, gives huge tax cuts to the rich & corps, allows drilling in ANWR, furthers Rs' anti-choice agenda, & adds $1.4 trillion to deficit - which will force cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, SS down the road. 3/
