/ Tory #Brexit is not about immigration or strengthening our borders, it's about getting a tax haven. It's about slashing taxes on business and the rich, slashing regulations and workplace rights and privatising the NHS. A thread.

/ Tory Brexiters have repeatedly called for regulations to be slashed, that means health, safety, food and environmental regulations. Often this is couched in terms of the requirements for a trade deal with the US. We all know about chlorinated chicken.
/ Right-wing think tanks including leading Brexiter MEP Daniel Hannan's IFT and the US Cato Institute called for the NHS to be opened to foreign competition and a bonfire of consumer and environmental regulations

/ John Major said of the Tory Brexiters: "The NHS is about as safe with them as a pet hamster would be with a hungry python." Daniel Hannan said the "NHS is a relic I wouldn't wish on anyone". The Brexiters see a trade deal with the US as a chance to largely privatise the NHS.
/ Liz Truss told the US Cato institute that “a thicket of regulation and control” is holding back business and called for a new “Anglo-American dream”
unearthed.greenpeace.org/2018/09/19/liz…
/ Jacob Rees-Mogg said that environmental and safety standards 'good enough for India' could be good enough for the UK.
/ The Tory Brexiters are equally keen on dismantling workplace rights. In 2009 a Tory group including Raab, Priti Patel & Truss said British workers are 'among worst idlers' and proposed Asian style workplace practices (ultra-long hours) & low taxes (huge tax cuts for the rich)
/ Dominic Raab previously called for Britain to use negotiations with the EU to scrap workers’ rights, including regulations that guarantee employees time off and limit the number of hours staff can be made to work. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
/ Liam Fox has called for further deregulation of the Labour market, even though the UK already has one of the most liberal labour markets in the OECD.
/ The Tory Brexiters are quieter about taxes than regulations. But here is Daniel Hannan shortly after the referendum making it clear that what he really wants is for #Brexit Britain to become a "buccaneering, offshore, low-tax nation", in short a tax haven for the rich.
/ We've already seen the Tory group including Raab, Truss and Priti Patel calling for Asian style low taxes, which generally means flat taxes and no capital gains tax - great for the rich who would see huge tax cuts, not so for the rest of us.
/ Here is ex-ERG leader Steve Baker calling for flat taxes, which as I've already mentioned means huge tax cuts for the rich, but not for the rest of us. And with revenues it would undoubtedly mean more privatisation of government services.
