2. Cormann pitch, sweating, frenetic (!) - Labor has no plan for a strong economy! BULLSHIT: New industries, new construction, new skills, new infrastructure.

LOGIC: The Govt prefers tax rorts for the well off to better health, education, skills & the environment for all
3. Kroger & co in knots on Sky: Labor will wreck the budget bottom line PLUS Labor plans big new taxes.

They cannot have it both ways. They will try. God they will try.
4. This - I’ll vote Labor for this. In a safe Coalition seat with a quality indie standing I’d vote indie for the same reason. #IndependentsDay

1. Try as I might I can’t move on from my ABC #campaigntrail experience. I’m devastated by the ABC’s betrayal of her values. The only way to regain my balance is to tell my truth. I expect not to ever again appear on the ABC but maybe I might help the ABC rediscover its mission.
2. The #campaigntrail producer asked me to appear & I agreed. The first I knew Alan Jones was a guest was when the host tweeted the lineup. I assumed that he’d been told to & agreed to be fact based, as he had been on the #QandA’s I’d seen. I was concerned, but up for it.
3. I was told One Nation would lead the discussion. I assumed, as per ABC guidelines, that Jones or the host would disclose up front that he was a One Nation donor. Didn’t happen.

Jones ran ON talking points in total denial of the revelations of the doco...

1. OK, Hanson lied through her teeth. Ashby & Dickson solicited donations from the NRA & the Koch operation, and discussed how to hide it so voters didn’t know. They KNOW what they’re doing is wrong. They promise potential donors to weaken gun laws. #howtosellamassacre
2. Hanson calls Ashby in the US about what they’re doing. He tells her they must ‘keep everything out of writing’ and use a private email account. She KNEW. Of course she knew. #howtokillamassacre.
3. PH dines with Muller AFTER foreign donations banned, says didn’t go to US b/c ‘not a politically smart thing for me to do.’ She discusses foreign loans & ‘baby steps’ to weaken gun laws. Ashby says he’ll return to USA with her after #ausvotes. SHE KNEW. #howtokillamassacre

1. Groundhog Day on One Nation preferencing. In 1998, Howard-Abbott urged preferencing One Nation; Costello and Kennett strongly disagreed, saying put ON last, as Labor did.

Then came #qldvotes - Hanson won 11 seats outside Brisbane, and Lib voters fled in Bringing Shane.
2. So Howard put One Nation last at 1998 #ausvotes. ON didn’t win a seat, and in Blair, where Hanson stood, the Lib won with Labor preferences.

Fast forward - she’s back, and the WA Libs preferenced her above Labor. The Feds were fine with it - Hanson had matured, they said.
3. Disaster struck again; the Liberal leader Colin Barnett says the decision cost the Libs several seats after it became a massive election issue.

That resolution is simple: it says

1⃣ #climatechange is real
2⃣caused by humans, and
3⃣Congress must take action now.

Those are things we know companies represented on the @USChamber’s board support.
So the largest lobbying organization in the country ought to join us and act on behalf of its members who stand to benefit from a transition to a #cleanenergy economy.

THREAD| Draft of the #Climate Change Act, presented by (@bmu) this week: The proposal is a framework law, featuring elements from international acts, e.g. from UK (@theCCCuk). In contrast to the German Climate Action Plan 2050, it will be legally binding. #Klimaschutzgesetz
2| The framework law includes emission reduction targets, defines CO2 budgets for each sector, and clarifies responsibilities, as well as review, transparency & sanctioning mechanisms. Implementation measures for each sector will be detailled in 2030 programmes, due in Mar 2019.
3| Progress will be supported by an independent advisory group of 7 experts. Focus is on reaching the 2030 CO2 reduction targets, but the draft works towards at least 95% reduction by 2050. The remaining 5% to reach #netzero could be reached through compensation policies.

Cabinet submissions and decisions on #climate change in the first 18 months of the Howard Govt are notable for not mentioning the impacts or consequences of climate change at all....

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level

My essay is only concerned with climate change-related damages in the US spurred, as I argue, by US actors like the oil majors. I could’ve written about Peruvian villagers suing a German energy giant & melting glaciers in the Andes, but that’s beyond the scope of my article.
