2. An elderly woman was checking out at the local grocery store last week when, a young cashier suggested to the much older lady;

"you should bring your own grocery bags,
bc plastic bags are not good for the environment."
3. The elderly woman apologized to the young girl and explained,
"We didn't have this 'green thingy' back in my earlier days."

To which the young clerk responded,
"That's the problem today. ..
'Your Generation' didn't care enough
to save our environment for future generations."
4. The elderly lady said
-"You're right missy, 'our generation'
did NOT have the "green thingy" in our day.

The elder lady went on to explain:
5. "My generation, well, we used to return milk , soda & beer bottles to the store. The store then sent them back to the plant to be washed; sterilized & refilled, so it could use the same bottles over & over. WErecycled. But we didn't have the "green thingy" in our day..
6. "Also" the elderly lady contimnued: "during 'my generation' grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags that we reused for numerous things. Most memorable besides household garbage bags was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books...
7. "..This was to ensure that public property (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our mindless scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on brown paper bags.

But, too bad we didn't do the "green thingy" back in 'my generation' right?.
8. The elderly lady explained to this clerk: "We walked up stairs because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks...

"But, you are right missy
9. "...We didn't have the "green thingy" in our day."
The young clerk was speechless.

The elderly woman cont:
"'My generation' had many children & washed these baby's many diapers when they were soiled -we didn't have plastic-lined super-expensive 'throw-away' kind.
10. Then she explained: "We dried ALL the clothes on a line, not in an energy-suckinging machine burning up 220 volts. Wind & solar power really did dry our clothes back in 'my generation.'"
11. The clerk listened stunningly w/eyes wide-opened:
"in 'my generation' ALL the kids got 'hand-me-down clothes' from their brothers or sisters, not brand-new clothes every month. And if they were ripped-my mom owned needles & thread 9for rips/NOT Tatoos) &taught us to use it"
12. "But young lady ..
you're absolutley right; we didn't have the "green thingy" back in our day.
"Back then we had 1 TV, or a radio, in the house NOT a TV in every room.
And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the state of Montana.
13. "In the kitchen we blended & stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. ...

When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. ..
14. "Back then, we didn't fire up an engine & burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working hard so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity...
15. But you are correct missy, right; we didn't have the "green thingy" back in 'my generation'."
"We drank from a water fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. ...
16. "We refilled writing pens w/ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blade in a razor, instead of throwing away the whole darn razor just because the blade got dull.

But you know what, you're right..we didn't have the "green thingy" back then.
17. "My generation', back then, people took the streetcar or a bus or walked whil.e the kids rode bikes to school or walked instead of turning moms into a 24hr taxi service in the family's $45,000 SUV, which btw cost which is what a whole house did, B4your little "green thingy."
18. "We had 1 electrical outlet in each room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint...
19. The elderly woman 1/2 smirked saying:
"But isn't it just the saddest thing to watch 'your generation' whine like a baby piggy abt how wasteful WE old folks are, just because we didn't have this little "green thingy" back then?"
20. The elder lady turned to see abt a dozen customers had listened in on her 'lesson' to the young clerk.

They looked astonished. Some were smiling, others had their eyebrow raised in a "oh sh*t" type look.
21. The elderly woman looked out to her tiny audience & said w/a wink:
"We don't like being old in the 1st place, so it doesn't take much to piss us off... Especially from a tattooed, ear-holed/nose-pierced smartass who can't make change w/out acash register doing her math."
22. The elderly woman got to the door, stopped & turned to ask 1 final question of the clerk:
"Ever talk to your grandparents missy?"

They were "Green Dealers"
B4 It Was Cool...U Feel ME...Bruh!?"

Then She Simply Walked Away
w/a Little Pep-In Her Step.

~End.
