Our current service designs fail because they aren’t designed to create fulfilling lives or help people thrive.

They are designed to silence creativity, reduce autonomy and suppress aspiration.
We are afraid of risk and of chaos.

Our dominant models of design are to reduce risk and to control neat outcomes we can quantify.

Evaluation is a baseline of how our current societal model functions and if it isn’t in a box it can’t be easily measured.
We don’t like outliers and we certainly can’t cope when they exist, this is why when services fail we have no way to fix them.

We have an incapacity to then ‘solve’ problems because there is no slack designed into systems.

Always challenge the material of power in your #servicedesign
Who holds it?
Is it present?
Is it balanced?
Should it be challenged?
Is it the same through out?
Should the balance shift over time?
Build platforms that facilitate and empower people to fulfil their needs, challenge paternalism and purely transactional design
Challenge when users are actually users, consider how the language you use creates a power dynamic and a notion of reliability on services

Magicians have been doing this whole "design thinking" thing for 10,000+ yrs.
Let me pull the curtain back and show you exactly how we go about making the impossible happen. It's a very logical process that gets phenomenal results, but it's been shrouded in secrecy for thousands of years.

First Question: What effect do I want to have on my audience?
This is powerful focus.

Out of everything that is possible, what SPECIFICALLY do I want the audience to experience? Do I want them to believe I can fly? Do I want them to think I can make tigers appear out of nowhere? Or, do I want them to think I can read minds (my specialty)?

RBI is likely to stay on hold, as inflation is likely to remain within its medium-term target of 4%, India's GDP growth to remain robust in 2019, supported by tailwinds from recent policy reforms (GST and bankruptcy code implementation)

Global growth will moderate. Developed markets will slow but emerging markets will stabilize. The Federal Reserve is expected to pause in the middle of this year. US dollar has peaked and EM inflation is at a 15-year low. EMs are in a better shape.

A blind spot for designers and is overestimating the value of HCI knowledge. In any organization, it's mastery of skills in HHI (Human to human) and HGI (Human to Group) interaction that defines how effective you will be.

Heard (again) that #design and #ux is somehow incompatible with #agile (which to most, means #scrum).

..that ppl can’t always jam their work into little increments

..that MVPs suck because they’re never improved

..that work can’t always be boiled down into a “ticket” 1/n
...that #design is more than screens...a more holistic view is needed

...that an output fixation is killing products

...that quality shouldn’t be sacrificed just to get stuff out the door

...that craft should be respected

...that #ux debt sucks 2/n
...and you know what? Those exact same things are muttered by engineers/QA all the time.

They have nothing to do with #agile, but everything to do with paint-by-numbers approaches to “delivery”, org silos, and overly simplistic “#design then build” models. 3/n
