Not surprising - > Bar London, every region in England and Wales favours no deal - standard.co.uk/news/politics/…
The single most hypocritical thing about the idea of a "2nd referendum" for reasons of "democracy" is not that it lacks support nor ignores what was already a legitimate vote but that some want to gerrymander by taking the most popular option of "no deal" off the table.
I am not in favour of a 2nd referendum but I do accept it as an option put forward in conference. My preferred route is for Parliament to find a compromise e.g. the Norway option.
However, we seem to have two competing neoliberal extremes (i.e. a neoliberal fantasy based around leaving versus another neoliberal fantasy of continuing the status quo) which seem both opposed to such a compromise. It's time the more moderate / centre view took control.
It's also time that these neoliberal ideologies were finally nudged out of both the Conservative and Labour parties. I'm encouraged to see One Nation Tory and Old Labour finally talking to each other.
I also find it perfectly unsurprising to see @ChukaUmunna and @Jacob_Rees_Mogg voting together against such "Norway" compromises. I happen to disagree with them both. I do hope @jeremycorbyn and @theresa_may find a united way forward, possibly with a Government of National Unity.
Whether it's "Norway", "No deal" or even "Revoke" ... the better option seems to be with a Government of National Unity (One Nation Tory and Old Labour) which are closer in ideology than either is to Blairism or Thatcherism.
However in order of preference, assuming a Gov of National Unity then my preferred choice is to compromise on "Norway", followed by "No Deal" and to revoke only as a last resort (which I cannot see reason or justification for).
X : That survey is misleading. It doesn't mean ...
Me : It's a survey, none of them represent anything but a perception often driven by a narrative - ... it's about as valid as those "all regions would vote remain" surveys.
X : I disagree. Surveys show there is support for remaining.
Me : No, surveys show a confused picture that is highly dependent upon the questions asked and varies with time etc. This is why the compromise of EEA docked to EFTA (e.g. Norway) is still a better path.
