Lunchtime. Dropped the car in the garage, had to get the train home.
X : What is public transport like in the UK?
Me : We don't have much. It's mostly profit generating private companies living large on Government welfare.
X : Don't you mean investment?
Me : Investment is what you do with people. If a company is making a profit or being allowed to survive against the market because of government money then that's welfare.

... pre-existing capital (e.g. the sunk cost fallacy) is very major source of inertia and entrapment, to the benefit of vendors. Fortunately there are many paths to the future. Hopefully, we'll avoid the "fool of a Took" one.
X : What about lock-in?
Me : Nothing says lock-in more than clinging onto a failed approach because of the political capital cost of a few hundred million of IT investment sunk into it. Some folk need "hybrid" to work, regardless of its merits (or lack of).

If information is infinite, then you can create a "perfect" virtual world which in itself must contain a perfect virtual world (and on). An infinite set can contain infinite subsets. Upshot is, if it is infinite then the likelihood of reality being real is precisely zero ... ->
... fortunately our escape button is the "perfect" aspect. It's not ever possible to achieve this because of uncertainty principles. Hence we will never be able to create that "perfect" world thereby demonstrating that we're not actually real.
The best we can achieve is always "approximation" never perfect. There will always be better models, no matter how much data you have. In an odd way, our "reality" depends upon it. Or as cavemen put it "what do you get if you multiply six by nine" (excluding base 13).

Gosh, at this rate the Brexit party will end up with a higher % than all the other parties combined - theguardian.com/politics/2019/… ... I'm old Labour, so I'll be voting Labour but the "perceived" softening on brexit doesn't help. The idea of a "remain" victory is fantasy ...
... it's like the last general election where Tory strategists were egging Labour on to become a "remain" party. Had they fallen for it, Labour would have been decimated at the polls. Fortunately, Corbyn is far more canny than that.
But we will know soon enough. Whilst it's easy to get swept up in the fever of protests and marches, it's elections that really show the nation's feelings. This European election should be very interesting.

Series of water main breaks at Orchard Grove last week. The park has its own private system that's connected to the city's system. Two dif sets of pipes: one for domestic, one for fire protection, says Jeff Arthur, director of public works for utilities.
