This interview with Shami Chakrabarti is so weird. She pleads with Jewish Labour Movement to not make the issue of antisemitism “personal” by focusing on Corbyn. He won’t be there forever, she says.

He is the leader. She is his Shadow Attorney General.

I would be gobsmacked if this was the first time I had heard this. But I have been told twice by senior people in the Labour movement, both close to the Corbyn centre, that the ‘movement is bigger than Jeremy Corbyn’ and that he effectively cant be reached so has to be bypassed
What weird psychology has led to people saying not to pay attention to the *leader* of the party over a racism issue which is tearing it apart.

I should say as introduction that I have come to hate tweeting about this issue. It feels like jumping into a vat of slime. A relatively friendly environment (Twitter) becomes a horrible, personal and hostile pit. Sorry to say but that's what this is is like.
Also, as this is such a tribal issue - and one which I have devoted a lot of time and energy to - it’s very difficult to see the wood from the trees. I think many people, me included (of course), jump to conclusions and confirmation bias is very strong.

Some very interesting and important recommendations in the new government White Paper on 'Online Harms.

Interesting that the social media companies quoted in the BBC report are cautiously supportive assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
There is potential good and harm which can come from the government intervening over this issue.

The largely unregulated forum of social media has led to a rise in abuse and fake news but also a huge increase in the ability of individuals to speak freely

So caution needed here
I haven't read in detail but the White Paper is wide ranging in its definition of online 'harm', including harassment and hate crimes but also fake news and bullying

I know I’m repeating myself but worth pointing again the complete denial and lack of insight - blaming the media not themselves.

And so incapable of making things better. Needs an independent body to step in.
Nb even if you accept the Labour narrative (currently unsupported by any detail) that the ST got the wrong end of the stick on the stats, this story’s was based on primary sources - emails. It demonstrates some really concerning cases as shown in my thread
And, frankly, it’s been 36 hours since the scoop. If Labour has identified serious flaws in the reporting, what are they?

Asa Winstanley's piece about "fake Labour accounts" that push #antisemitism to discredit the party has been widely shared. I don't doubt that goes on and state actors are most likely involved, but Asa's article seems to be a big hit with people who actually do hold a/s views. /1
These people, many Labour members, seem oblivious to the irony of blaming anonymous trolls, presumably acting on behalf of Israel or the Tories, for spreading antisemitic poison that they themselves regularly promote. One such character is Charles Chiverton of Mansfield CLP. /2

Lots of articles, some useful podcasts from some of the pro-Corbyn commentariat on left antisemitism but three words noticeably absent from the debate. Jewish. Labour. Movement.

Also, the role new-left media has played in fostering an antisemitic culture has been overlooked 2/
Opposing left wing antisemitism means challenging parts of new-left media where anti-Jewish bias is prevalent. There's just no way round this. Some specific examples: The Canary's been on a mission to normalise the Nazi metaphor with Israel. (Really helpful guys, thanks)
