Try this. Next time a Remainer says "Why did you hv to try to disturb everything? Why cldn't we just leave things as they were?" ask: "Explain to us about this 'things staying as they were'. How was that supposed to work once deeper €zone integration progressed as planned?"+
The €zone bloc already has a qualified majority. Even now, if it all voted together (as it almost always will in the future when more integrated) it cld set all the EU's rules, overruling the UK every single time, on everything. That's the future. There's no "carry on as now".
So ask them: Explain how we "carry on as now" when now we can get our policies thro & block those we don't like but in the future the €zone will set all the rules & our votes will be totally irrelevant? Our only future inside the EU is one in which we are dominated by the €zone
Anyone who says we shld "carry on as before" demonstrates she does not understand how the EU works, how it is scheduled to change, & why we are leaving. We are leaving precisely because "carry on as before" is not & never was an option.
The argument that we shld Remain in the EU was the argument that this didn't matter - it didn't matter if in the future the UK had all its main economic laws set for it by the EU, it didn't matter that it was dominated. The EU was convivial & commodious enough to make it worth it
We rejected that. To vote to Leave the EU was to declare that being dominated by the EU was not a price worth paying for its convivial & commodious embrace. So to choose subjection to such domination in Leaving (eg a Customs Union) is to reject the whole purpose of voting to go!
