THREAD: Sekiro is basically a Rhythm game and heres how it uses #animation to set its difficulty. Every attack has set timings like riffs in a song but instead of chords it uses anticipation to tell the player which note to play next and when. Eg. This boss is super intimidating.
..until you learn that he only has two combos / riffs, and you only need two buttons to beat him. Those being Block (LB) and Jump (A). Every combo has a set timing for each attack and once you get the rhythm it becomes second nature.
His second combo starts the same but often ends early with an unblockable attack. This can be pretty scary at first since these attacks aren't always countered by jumping but once you’ve got the timing it’s just another riff in the song.
Most attacks are telegraphed by a huge anticipation, in this case he holds it for over a second before striking. This can be applied to every boss and enemy in the game. The primary way Sekiro alters difficulty is by tweaking the amount of attacks and timing for each enemy
Another example is Lady Butterfly. A super agile and fast hitting enemy but like the previous example she has a set number of combos, each having a set timing and big anticipation poses. This has four attacks but always has the same timing so learn that and she will never hit you
This one only requires one button, which is Block (but you should probably attack after it too). It might take a couple of tries to find the timing but its always there and once you have it you won't forget.
Like the previous example, From Software telegraph the attacks by holding big readable anticipation poses before each one. Other games do this too but Soul’s games use it as their primary combat mechanic and hitting a wrong note often means death, especially in #Sekiro
