May talking the most abject bollocks when she insists she requested a get-out clause from extension. A get-out is included in the wording of Article 50. You can always leave early if you ratify a deal before exit day. May’s problem is that she can’t.
‘A deal will require both sides to make compromises’, says the woman who refused to change a single comma on the only document she was renegotiating
Corbyn making interesting noises. Suggest gov is moving towards customs union while also noting ministers keep arguing against it. Implies he’ll whip for ref if gov doesn’t move. Demands primary legislation for changes but notes leadership challengers warn they’ll ditch them.
In other words, he’s keeping all his options open. If gov signals support for customs union, Corbyn still has enough wriggle room to claim gov isn’t sincere because of what Hunt et al have threatened with regards to tearing the deal up. That will keep Labour PV supporters happy.
Sir Bill Cash describes May’s actions as an ‘abject surrender’. Another convert to her deal I see
Surprised May keeps telling the House that it’s twice rejected a second referendum. That’s fewer times than it’s rejected her deal
Ouch. Steve Baker asks May if she’ll now seek confidence of the Labour Party. This is not a parliament that’s changing its opinion on the withdrawal agreement, or agreeing anything to replace it, anytime soon
And so, to coin a phrase, nothing has changed. May’s premiership is dead, her deal is dead, and that almost certainly means that this parliament is dead. General election all but inevitable. After that, you may as well decide Brexit or no-Brexit on a coin toss.
