I know everyone is getting worked up about the European elections, and they are important, but they won’t change the course of Brexit either way. Remember the Tories won in 1999 and went onto a second landslide defeat in general election two years later. Conversation moves on.
The big news will not be the success of UKIP or Brexit Party - of course both will do well - but the predicted collapse of the Conservatives. That will send shockwaves through a party that’s already on its knees. It certainly won’t hurt Remainers.
Remainers must of course take these elections seriously - they’re about our representation in EU after all - but we don’t need to act as though this is the climax. It’s one of many hoops we’ll have to jump through. We can take a break for a week or so.
