It’s too early in the morning for Mayor Pete to give me an aneurysm
Is it wonderful that a gay man, for the first time in history, is being given the golden-boy treatment in a presidential race? Sure! Are any queer women given similar treatment? No. In the moment, no women are, at all.
With that disclaimer in place, is “give me the nation’s most important job, my special skills include not having any of the qualifications or relevant experience for it” the most White Guy pitch ever? It sure might be!
In! What! World! Was! Electing! Someone! As! Underqualified! As! Trump! Good!!!?
I think Mayor Pete is actually running, not to be POTUS, but to be top-of-mind as a VP pick - hence all the setting himself up as a foil to Pence. So I’m not as bothered as I could be by the non-stop hype train.
But with women running on actual records of accomplishment or rolling out substantive policy day and night, “pick me, I’m like Baby Geniuses, but for being President” is still incredibly weak stuff.
