DYK that the EHS Medical Communications Centre has several platoons of paramedics dedicated to answering calls 24/7 to ensure the safety of us all. It's National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and we will be highlighting these platoons & the amazing work they do. #NPSTW2019
Each platoon at the Medical Communications Centre has communications officers on a number of different functions. We’ll explain a little about what they do and how long – collectively – they’ve been working as a vital part of the provincial emergency management system. #NPSTW2019
Communications officers undergo three months of training before starting off as call takers at the EHS Medical Communications Centre. Here are members of the A Platoon, which has a total of 60 years of experience on the ground and almost 108 years in the MCC. #NPSTW2019
DYK that #NovaScotia is divided into four regions - Cape Breton, Northeast, West, and Central - and all platoons have dispatchers dedicated to each of the regions. Members of the B Platoon, as seen here, have 54 years of experience in the field and 114 in the MCC. #NPSTW2019
In each platoon someone is tasked to work the first response communications officer desk – a link to all allied supporting agencies, MFR, fire, police, even snow plow operators. The C Platoon has 45 years of experience on the ground as well as 89 years at the MCC. #NPSTW2019
Each platoon has an air medical trauma communications officer who dispatches & coordinates all our of hospital critical care resources throughout the province. Members of D Platoon have nearly 100 years of total experience in the field, and almost 87 years at the MCC. #NPSTW2019
More than a dozen Clinical Support Paramedics like Matt Dumaresque work at the MCC to provide clinical advice for staff on the ground, act as a clinical resource & provide triage, medication advice & health information over the phone. #NPSTW2019
It takes about 3 years to train for all positions within the MCC. Here we have E Platoon communications officers, who are generally day staff at the MCC, with nearly 29 years of experience on the ground and 67 years of experience at the MCC. #NPSTW2019
