/Want to drill down on one of the more dangerous parts of this whole disgraceful #TrumpRussia episode - the suppression of any kind of a whole of government response to what should be rightly considered an act of war against the United States by Russia in 2016.
/We may not yet have the vocabulary or laws to describe, discuss or deal w/the new kind of warfare Russia used against the US in 2016. But that kind of 21st century war, what many in Europe call "hybrid war," is here. And Mueller's report describes its manifestation in detail.
/What Mueller also describes is Trump's years long effort to obstruct any reasonable investigation into Russia's attack on the US; our President has even said, standing next to Putin, the man who ordered the attack, the attack never happened. cnn.com/2018/07/16/pol…
/One of Trump's greatest achievements has been to prevent wide understanding of the enormity of Russia's efforts on his behalf in 2016, and the obvious questions it raises abt the legitimacy of his Presidency. I do a deep dive on this in this thread:
/Tragically for the nation, AG Barr joined this whitewashing of history these past few weeks. How could this man, in charge of counterintel for the US, not make the Russian attack central to his public comments? Scale of betrayal here hard to comprehend.
/Imagine if 2 1/2 years after Pearl Harbor FDR still hadn't accepted that it even took place. Or years later Bush was still refusing to believe it was Al Qaeda who brought down the towers. Think of the actions we took in the days which followed, how the world and we changed.
/What makes Trump's actions even worse of course is that he knew the attack on the US was happening, encouraged it, amplified it, lied about it and then obstructed a legitimate investigation into what happened. Hard to imagine a greater betrayal of US.
/Which brings us to the current Presidential election which began a few months ago. What have we learned from 2016? Are we prepared? Are we sure we can prevent another nation from attacking our democracy again? These questions need intense discussion now.
/There is an urgency to this discussion because over last few months our President aggressively intervened in the domestic politics of another nation to achieve an ideologically favorable outcome for himself, not necessarily for the US. foreignpolicy.com/2019/03/25/how… Is the new norm?
/As someone who worked on protecting @DCCC and House campaigns fr disinformation/cyber attacks in 2018, I can tell you the nation is not prepared for new hybrid war attacks. Smart bills have been blocked. DHS not in the game, weakened. No one in charge. AG suspect. It's scary.
/Democrats must do everything they can in the coming days to protect the 2020 elections from another attack. We are two years behind were we should be, but things can still be done. Here are 3 things I think most important: medium.com/@Simon_Rosenbe…
/The time to "wait for Mueller" is over. It is time to act. He's given us a great deal of new information which must be incorporated into our understanding of Russia's attack on our nation, the intense effort to cover it up. Job 1 should be to make sure it never happens again.
/After Mueller Report only place where WH/GOP could end up - it is okay to work with hostile foreign powers to undermine US elections. And here we have it. Has to be wake up for Congress to act now to protect 2020 elections.
/What Rudy tried to do on TV today was normalize treason.
/New @michaelscherer @WaPoSean piece confirms Trump campaign/RNC, despite their unpatriotic amplification of 2016 Russian influence campaign, refuse to forgo use of these illicit tactics in 2020. Is among most disgraceful episodes in US history. washingtonpost.com/powerpost/will…
