the refusal to even *consider* the idea that democrats could make impeachment a *moral* issue tout court - and thereby leverage even its *failure* into an indictment of an entire class of political elites that galvanizes fed-up voters - is for me a sign that the party is hopeless
all this marveling at Trump's ability to mobilize voter grievances and a broad sense of disgust and alienation thru maneuvers and promises that, despite being "unrealistic" or "not how things work" or "doomed to fail" are still POLITICALLY SUCCESSFUL, and yet here we still are

You Might Miss 100% of the Shots You Could Take!
I don't know how to put this more bluntly: in the barest sense, Trump presents his people with enemies. his voters appreciate this, and have confidence, however misguided or immoral, that he is fighting them (however evily or stupidly). the democrats, OTOH, want things both ways
you can't run against Trump as an enemy, promise to fight him, & then demur, punting responsibility back to voters. the voters elected YOU to fight him, NOW. some may understand that fighting could mean 'losing'. some may not. but they all have to see you FIGHT in the first place
again: the most logical, unsparing conclusion to draw from what's plainly in front of our faces is that the democratic hierarchy would rather retain its dominance as a losing party than govern as a winning one.
