1. I don't think politics should be the driving factor but most opposition to impeachment is based on the assumption that impeaching Trump would be bad politics.

But no one ever actually makes a detailed argument. It's just asserted.

2. The anti-impeachment argument, as I understand it, is that:

- Trump and Fox News will use impeachment to motivate the Republican base

- Impeachment is pointless because Senate Republicans will never convict

3. But Trump and the GOP have made it very clear they are going to use the Mueller report to motivate their base anyway. That's why Trump tweets about it every day and why Barr and Senate Republicans are "investigating" the origins of the Mueller probe

4. So it's really not a decision between an issues-only focused campaign and one focused on policy. The Mueller report will be part of 2020. The question is will that portion of the debate be one-sided? Or will the Democrats engage in a principled way? popular.info/p/muellers-sla…
5. Issues of motivation do not only impact Republicans. Millions of Dems turned out in 2018, desperate for someone to hold Trump accountable. How motivated will they be if Democrats effectively ignore clear evidence of crimes and other misconduct by Trump? popular.info/p/muellers-sla…
6. One of the biggest myths in politics is "message discipline." There is no such thing in modern politics. You cannot control the narrative but you can help shape the narrative. Democrats may regret ceding this ground to Republicans popular.info/p/muellers-sla…
7. I also think its far from clear that having former White House advisers like Don McGahn testify about Trump's illegal and immoral conduct on national television shortly before the 2020 election will be a boon to Trump.

8. Anyway, I'll be tracking this closely. I'm pretty surprised out of ~20 Democratic candidates only one (Warren) is aggressively calling for impeachment at this point.

1. Can we talk about what's happening at Facebook? Because it's EXTREMELY screwed up.

If you'll recall, the company has been careening from one PR disaster to another after people realized its impact on the 2016 election.

Facebook admitted to me late last night that it has been running hundreds of Trump campaign ads that violate Facebook's rules.

3. Facebook became aware of these ads after I SENT THEM MULTIPLE EMAILS ALERTING THEM

Consider how ridiculous this is. Facebook had $15 billion in revenue in Q1 2019. I am just one dude.

The company says it took the ads offline after a report by popular.info

Facebook told me "we’re always looking to improve our enforcement, which is never perfect"

The company acknowledges that the ads were "subject to Facebook's ad review system, which relies primarily on automated tools to check ads against these policies"

They do not appear to be reviewed in a systematic way because many of the ads blatantly violate Facebook's ad rules

3. Remember, Facebook made $15 BILLION in the last three months. They could easily afford to review all the political ads that are run every day.

But they don't because it would COST THEM MONEY and make the product LESS ATTRACTIVE TO THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN

Let's not kid ourselves: The Dem leadership has no intention of #impeaching Trump. They've likely polled battleground states to see which way the wind is blowing. It appears Trump will serve his full term politically unscathed. The damage to democracy is incalculable.
What's most disturbing is that the #impeachment issue can't be blamed on the GOP. Dems are the ones with the power to initiate the process.

So I ask this: What was the blue wave for, if not accountability? Dem leaders are telling voters "vote for us but nothing will change."
Here's what gives me hope: There are millions of Americans who see what's happening and are willing to step up and fight injustice. Whether they canvass, phone-bank, volunteer, do digital activism, run for office, etc. they are the heroes safeguarding our democracy.

@SenSanders Actually, none of the observers that went there, including the UN, said that the elections were fraudulent. It was the US who sent no observers and the Opposition who refused to participate who claimed that. As a matter of fact, the Opposition begged the UN not to send observers
