Make no mistake about it, Britain had gulags. They were called workhouses.

After the 1830s, as Britain's elite oversaw the transition to a market economy, outdoor relief for the poor was scrapped - meaning hundreds of thousands entered the work house over the following decades.
This shift was born of the ideological fanaticism of a tiny elite - see the Commission for Poor Law reform - meaning laws helping the poor since the Elizabethan era were overturned.

As the likes of Nassau Senior might have said - you gotta crack eggs to have an omlette >

- Commons vote on 11th Dec
- Confidence vote on 12th Dec

We respect @jeremycorbyn as the democratically-elected leader of @uklabour. But if he asked us to stop the campaign, we would NOT. Sorry.

We have had to wait 18 months for our #OpenSelection motion to be debated at #LabourConference and will not pull out now.
Our campaign is for Labour members to have a democratic vote on the BEST Labour candidate for their seat. Every election.

It's not about a 'purge' - it's about a principle.

Yesterday was a depressing day to be a Jewish member of the Labour party. Too many still deny, diminish or simply can’t see anti-semitism (JC's problem in the past, I believe, which he’s trying to rectify). So important to continue to point it out, explain and above all educate.
JC = Jeremy Corbyn not Jesus Christ. Just to be clear. And brace yourself, this may become a thread.
On the mural, there can be no doubt once you read what the artist had to say. Check it out here. What the hell is “Jewish ideology”? Neo-liberalism? Capitalism? Not eating pork? Being average at sports? None of these are shared by all Jews.

The noises coming out of #Labour on racism towards Jews (let us call it that) are increasingly hollow.
Let's not even talk about the 1000s of oddballs in & around Labour, who rant on about "Zionists", etc like UKIPers talk about "immigrants", but we know where both are pointing.

One is profiled here in detailed (& mostly ignored by Labour "radicals")
