Greens are obsessed with lifestyle in the same was as medieval religious sects were. Capitalism and industrial society saw off those weird theologies and perpetual austerity. Greens have nothing persuade you except a shallow reinvention of those ideas, wrapped in lies.
Capitalism and industrial society also began to erode the rigidity of the class system. It wasn't always pretty, but first it ended feudalism, ultimately creating the conditions for democracy.

We're beginning to get a picture of what George's anticapitalism is about.
The first anti-capitalists appealed to the people who gained the least from capitalism. They said a better settlement could be achieved. In contrast, today's anticapitalist greens speak to the people who barely work at all, who have plenty of wealth.
And rather than saying that there's something wrong with capitalism itself, and the relationships that it creates between people, they say there is something incompatible with capitalism and creation. A bit like medieval conceptions of The Fall: sin disturbs the natural order.
Meanwhile, of course, this 'failing life support system' which has been shot at by 'capitalism', miraculously produces the exact opposite of what George claims: longer, healthier, wealthier lives. The last 30 years have been without precedent in human history.
That leaves what Moniot said as a total lie or a religious prophecy. He claims science supports his grim, zealous and weird demands that the entire world reorganises according to his wishes. But he can give no account of the paradox.
To him, anyone who challenges his view is a 'denier'.

I suspect that he is popular in polite society, because much of it, too, sees nothing wrong with a clergy of scientists, and an aristocracy of landed technocrats, to remake the medieval world.
That's why all green protests look like Hieronymus Bosh paintings come to life.
