Day 2 #LowCarbSeattle neuro-scientist Dr. David Diamond @LDLSkeptic is up. His talk is on "Does an Elevation of LDL-Cholesterol with a LC Diet increase Risk for CVD?

@LowCarbUSA
He has Familial Hypertriglyceridemia. Doc said he needed a statin. Instead cut Trg by 75% with LC diet.

Believes no justification for taking a statin.

Mr Fit study. Showing a slide that appears to show a huge death from CVD with incr in Chol. Actually .3 & to 1.3%
Another focus: Hypothesis FH = young death. 1966 study says no, other studies agree.
Published a paper shopwing Higher LDL assoc w/ => longevity.

FH study w/ people on statins & CV events. No difference in events between LDL, but difference in CAC. Higher CAC more CV events.

FBG & BG<100 0CAC, higher BG higher CAC
Some meds dec bad chol, inc good chol but had no diff in death.

Jupiter Study discussion on how numbers crunched to get their advertised benefit numbers.

Study that showed treatment in 200 people needed to save 1 life in secondary prevention. BMJ 2001
Technical difficulties. PPT gremlins switching slides without input.

No studies show double digit benefits.

No studies done on Keto or LC and statins.

Numerous effects of statins reported.

METSIM showed T2D inc in statin users.

Inc in breast cancer women on statins study
Another study linking statins & cognitive adverse affects.

Wrote a commentary on 60 different medical papers on adverse affects. Avail on Open Access.

What causes CVD? Clotting factors. More Fibrinogen and Factor VIII.

Recommends "Lies My Doctor Told Me" by Ken Berry
Reccomends "Fat and Cholesterol Don't Cause Heart Attacks".

End.

Q/A

- Low level benefit. Adverse affects might be stronger than benefits.
- LPa interferes with clotting breakdown, need to get down
-Inc BG activating platelets
- LDL clears Factor VIII (per study @siobhan_huggins read) could this be an indicator of clotting issues being a clearing issue? @LDLSkeptic had not heard of this and will look into that study.
- Spreading word to medical students
- RR being misrepresented is industry problem
@siobhan_huggins @LDLSkeptic - Lipid Panel is a guide
- CAC to drive statin prescriptions? Statins increase CAC but don't find more coronary events in statin users.
- Should be a rule that absolute & RR presented.

Thank you @LDLSkeptic for a great talk!
