China is in the midst of a ravenous culling of their pig population due to ASF. Officially stocks are down 20%, unofficially you're hearing upwards of 40%, and still spreading. Videos are circulating of crowds at grocery stores not being able to buy pork. 2/n
What does any logical leader and country do? Increase imports of the product from another country. Canada has been sending pork for years to China and all of a sudden found their pork exports blocked. Why? Huawei. So put this lunacy in perspective. China has massive pork 3/n
shortages and a country willing to sell at normal market rates. Rather than buying the pork Beijing is WILLFULY choosing to screw over their own people depriving them of food just so they can make a point about Huawei. Frame everything around this basic idea. Done
